Breeding
Together with a friend or by yourself, you can breed two FooPets, raise the puppies or kittens, and then keep them or sell them for FooDollars! It's fun to start your own FooPets family tree!
Since you'll be bringing new creatures into the world, breeding FooPets requires much responsibility. Please don't breed until you understand the Rules, below.

Rules
- FOOPET AGE RESTRICTION
Your FooPet must be at least 1 year old to breed. You can adopt older FooPets from other users, or accelerate the age of your existing FooPet to allow immediate breeding for 20 FD. - LITTER LICENSE REQUIRED
To help ensure that breeding is done responsibly, a Litter License must be purchased (currently priced at 100 FD) for both the Father and Mother FooPets of each litter. Keep in mind that you may be able to make even more FooDollars back if you sell the puppies or kittens. NOTE WELL: Litter License is one-use only and a new one will need to be purchased each time you breed a pet. - FINDING A GOOD BREEDING PARTNER
Once you've purchased at least one Litter License, you'll be able to send an unlimited number Breeding Requests to other FooPet members by looking for links on their profile and their pets' profiles. If a member sends you a Breeding Request, you'll see a notification icon on the top of the site, next to your username when logged-in. Each request will be specific for a certain pet of yours and theirs, and both pets must be old enough to breed, the same species (both dogs or both cats) and the opposite sex (one male and one female). If the recipient of your request wishes to accept the breeding request and pair up the two FooPets, that member must also own at least one Litter License. (A Litter License may be gifted to another member if desired.) Once another member accepts one of your requests, a Litter License will be used for each member (or two licenses if you're breeding two of your own pets together). While it's possible to breed two of your own FooPets, it's more fun to pair up with a friend! You'll be starting a FooFamily Tree that will be tracked forever here on FooPets, so choose your partner carefully. Once two FooPets are paired-up, they are "off the market" and remain together exclusively until all the puppies or kittens are born and weaned. NOTE WELL: Inbreeding (the breeding of a parent with its own offspring or a sibling with its sibling) is not permitted, because in real life, such breedings lead to an increased frequency of birth defects and health problems in the babies. - PATIENCE WHILE WAITING FOR CONCEPTION, DELIVERY AND WEANING
Just like in the real world, conception (pregnancy) doesn't always happen immediately. If you have paired two FooPets, you have to wait an average of 10 days for conception to occur. You will optionally be able to accelerate conception to happen immediately for 20 FD. Once conception occurs, then you'll need to wait during the gestation (pregnant) period until delivery happens, which is 2 weeks (it actually takes about 2 months in real-life, but we're bending some of the real-life rules here). Once delivery happens, you'll need to wait 2 weeks while the until the puppies or kittens are weaned. - PROPER CARE OF BABY FOOPETS
At delivery, you'll be thrilled with the new arrival of between 4 and 7 new baby FooPets! The babies will be randomly assigned to the two owners of the parent FooPets, with the initiator of the breeding request getting the extra one in the case of an odd number in the litter. Until the babies are weaned and old enough to leave their FooParents and you've found them new homes, you will be responsible for their proper care, which will include at a minimum dewormings and vaccinations, feeding, and watering (all these supplies will be purchasable with FooGems). The mother of the litter will keep the babies fed and happy herself during the first 2 weeks after birth. - SELLING BABY FOOPETS
You will be able to sell the baby FooPets for any FooDollar amount you wish, with one restriction: you must charge at least 20 FD. It will be your responsibility to advertise the availability of your puppies or kittens to your friends and family, or in our Breeding FooPets forum or on other websites. Alternatively, you may keep the babies forever as they grow into adulthood, and they will not count against your 20 pet limit, but you must take proper care of them as noted in the following rule. - CONSEQUENCES OF IMPROPER CARE
Each owner of the mother and father FooPet will be responsible for about half the puppies in the litter. If they are not receiving proper care, and the FooSamaritan is forced to make 3 rescue care missions in a row to keep them alive, they will be taken to the Shelter and the irresponsible owner will have his or her FooKarma level dropped to the start of the next lower level, will have any remaining Litter Licenses revoked, and will be banned from breeding again for at least 3 months. - ACKNOWLEDGEMENT OF THE LIMITATIONS OF FOOPET BREEDING
FooPet puppies and kittens are not perfect representations of actual puppies and kittens. They are simply miniaturized versions of their parents, which will grow slowly in size but not change in appearance or color as they age. If you breed two parent of the same breed, all puppies in the litter will be the same breed. If you breed two parents of different breeds, about half the litter will be the breed of the mother, and about half the breed of the father. There is no concept of "hybrid" puppies or kittens. That said, the FooPet babies are still darned cute. :)
