Coffee, plant and dog lover
I’m going to try to keep this short n’ sweet ↦ I am currently a college student studying to become an elementary school teacher with the goal of teaching upper elementary grades (ideally fourth grade). I am an avid animal lover and hope to continue my education in positive reinforcement training and to certify as a dog trainer in the future! I am a plant enthusiast and have a growing urban jungle in my bedroom! I adore working with children (hence the college major) and worked as a full-time daycare provider over the summer (currently working as a floating substitute for the company) and hope to return to a full-time position for my next summer break! err… other than that, I’m an introvert and not all that interesting.
After the adoption of my mother’s dog, a miniature Labradoodle named Katarah, I dreamt of owning and raising my own Labradoodle and in junior year of high school that dream became reality when I was able to adopt Rowan in February 2017. Rowan was not the puppy I was expecting, in fact he was not even from the litter I placed my reservation on. The litter I originally placed my reservation on months prior only had one puppy which meant the three families (including me) on the waiting list had three options: (1) you could request the puppy, but if someone who made a reservation before you placed yours requested the puppy as well they would receive her. (2) move your reservation to the next available waiting list of an upcoming litter. Or (3) a six month-old male puppy would be available in two weeks and up and until this point remained unclaimed, but similar to requesting the singleton female puppy if someone who placed their reservation before you they would receive the male puppy. I took a leap of faith and requested the male puppy. I remember receiving the email in my statistics math class, my heart leapt in my chest as I read that the male puppy was mine. Two weeks after that email Rowan was welcomed into my family’s household and instantly won over each of my family member’s hearts! Rowan has changed my life for the better. He’s introduced me to incredible people, has taught me life skills (ex. To be more patient), and he has been through highs and lows with me. He’s posed new challenges, with his severe anxiety and requirement for a lot of training as well as additional support with the (short-term) use of assistance of an anti-anxiety medication. But through these challenges — past, present and future — he’s made me a better dog owner, budding trainer, and problem-solver. To say I’m grateful for my snow enthusiast, water lover, mama’s boy would be an understatement. He’s my world! ♥ You can read more about Rowan on his “Foopets version’s” profile.
