It all started the day Lundqvist was born. Henrik Lundqvist was born on March 2nd 1982 in Are, Sweden. Lundqvist also has a twin brother who actually helped Lunqvist start off his goal tending career when in 1990 when they started to play organized hockey. Joel (Lundqvist’s twin brother) raised Henrik’s hand when the coach asked if anyone wanted to be goaltender Joel raised Henrik’s arm and said he would like to. Henrik wasn’t the top draft pick nor was he the last but every team passed him until the 7th round in the 2000 NHL draft. With the 205th in the draft the Rangers would select Lundqvist. Lundqvist didn’t start his NHL career until 2005 before then he played for Frölunda. Lundqvist wasn’t always a starting goaltender, he started out as a backup for the Rangers current goaltender Kevin Weekes at the time. Weekes then suffered an injury which lead to Lundqvist starting his phenomenal rookie season. Lundqvist made his NHL debut on October 8th 2005 against the New Jersey Devils, stopping 24 of 27 shots in a 3-2 overtime loss. A few days later, on October 13th 2005, Lundqvist posted his first career NHL win, against the Devils. His first career shutout came on October 17th 2005 against the Florida Panthers, and with it Lundqvist became the first rookie goaltender to record a shutout for the Rangers since John Vanbiesbrouck.
