Welcome to Hershey’s profile! One day, I saw a little rehoming for a Lost Dachshund. I looked at him for a moment and realized that dachshunds here on Foopets look a lot like my old dog that lived with my grandmother for 12 years. I ended up putting in an application, and I was the only one who did! I was actually shocked I was the only one, but vooak- announced that I was the winner, and I got to bring home this cute boy.
Hershey here represents an old dog that I grew up with. My great grandmother had a habit of adopting pets from the animal shelter and taking them back about a week or so later. She did that with loads of cats, dogs, I believe even a hamster one time lol. We had a dog named Spencer who was a pug for about a year. That was the longest she had every kept a pet. She took him back, and then she ended up adopting a little mutt puppy. The shelter told her that she was banned from coming back, and that she couldn’t return the dog if she wanted to. So we ended up keeping him and named him Hershey.
Hershey was always super protective of me, except around my dad. We grew up together, and we use to play with the neighbor’s dog, Mollie (who ended up becoming our dog lol). We had him for I believe 8 years before my grandmother was put into a retirement home. We had Mollie and Mindy in our home, so we weren’t able to bring another dog in. I was heart broken because he was the first dog I could have really called my own. He ended up going to live with the man who mowed my grandmother’s law. My dad heard a few months back that Hershey was still alive and well, which always makes me happy. Although Hershey was a mutt, he looked like a dachshund that just had really long legs.
