Phyllis was an extraordinary women, she was my grandma. She passed away in 2005 I was only 11 years old at the time. I still remember my last conversation. The following morning she was going in for surgery on her lungs. She had lung cancer from smoking, we were talking about school and how my day was. I then asked her if she was afraid and she told me she was, I too admitted I was afraid. But I had to go to bed so we said I love you to each other. Those would be the last words we ever spoke.
I don’t remember what happened the following morning but she died on the table. She was on life support for a week or two. We flew home, my mother never let me go to the hospital to see her as it was scary with all the tubes at least that’s what my mother told me. Fast forward to about 2016 I found a photo of her on all those machines in my grandpas house. Every time i see a grandma out with her family or grand kids or hear people talk about their grandma i can’t help but get a little jealous that theirs is still alive. I would do anything to hear my grandmas voice again or hug her.
