REMINDER: Members selling duplicated pets or "RARE" pets... (locked)

Hi everyone,
It has come to our attention that some members are duplicating pets, also known as twins, triplets, etc., Some of these pets may be labeled as “rare”. However, when members duplicate these pets they stop being “rare”.

A truly “Rare” pet is uncommon . Some members may not feel a pet is “rare” if it has been duplicated.

There are some members that may not care and that is fine. But in fairness to all members we want to make sure everyone knows it is being done. If you are creating/selling such pets please let members know they are duplicate pets.

It’s always wise to be aware of your surroundings and ask lots of questions when buying pets or items. We want the buyer and well as the seller to be truthful with each other so there is no dishonesty or hurt feelings between members.

Please let me know if you have further questions.

Quick question,

If we find a rare lost stat on Play Page, duplicate it & then go to trade one, are we able to call that rare? As the pet is rare based on the lost stat, not the fact it’s duplicated.

Just wanted to clear this up.

I understand what you are saying about calling them “Rare” because they are “Lost Stat” etc…. However, if their numbers continue to increase because of duplication wouldn’t that just classify them as another category of pet instead of “rare”? Because the more they are duplicated the more common they become.

If you want to call it “rare” then to be completely honest you could call it “Duplicated Rare XYZ”. Then you would be completely honest in what you are selling. :-)

Thank you for posting this PL, it’s really helpful. I became originally aware of this a few days ago, thanks to a lovely member who brought it up.. I don’t like the duplicating thing it’s making pets more common and common every day.. I just hope that people may be more aware that they are making them common now. :)

I don’t completely agree with this.. Although duplicating does create more pets and generally makes the lost stat pet of the breed that is being duplicated less uncommon, some things just won’t change by doing so. There are breeds of both lost cats and dogs that are simply easy to find.

For example, I spend (on average) two hours surfing the Play Page before I find a lost stat Boston Terrier, but finding a lost Australian Shepherd took me more than 700 hours of surfing overall, which means that the Australian Shepherd is rare simply based on how often people are able to find a lost stat of that breed one on the Play Page. What I’m trying to say is – there will always be thousands of lost stat Boston Terriers on the site, whether people duplicate them or not – they are simply common and easy to come across. A lost stat Black Husky, or a a Marley Lab will almost always be rare, considering how many have been found so far and how often one gets the chance to even create one.

I do, however, agree that excessive duplicating might cause a problem. Certainly creating 10 pets at a time makes them a lot less rare than creating only one, but I don’t think creating twins will hurt anyone. It will only make it easier and possible for people to get their dream pets, should the original owner decide to keep one of his/her lucky find.

Thanks for the warning, though. I’ll make sure to keep it in mind next time I find something I like on the PP! :)

Duplicating pets?! What?

I have a question, just how do you duplicate a pet? I don’t understand.

Duplicators are cheaters! Plain and simple!

Medium

How are they cheaters? They pay for each pet. Had they not had to pay the adoption price for each one they adopt, it would be different. Everyone has the ability to do it, so nobody is cheating. Foo isn’t losing any money, nobody is getting free pets, so there’s nothing wrong with it.

That does sound unfair to me, i’m glad its been pointed out. I didnt know it was going on.

I don’t think it’s perfectly okay, but I don’t disagree with it either. I think twins are fine, but anything more than that is excessive.

May someone please explain what/how duplicating is done? What is duplicating?

Could you explain to me how exactly this makes them cheaters?
They put their time, their money, into these pets. Sometimes it takes 6 months to find a rare lost stat. Sometimes longer. Creating a twin, so you can keep one or sell one, or triplets to keep one, sell one, and give one away(what I generally do if I create three) is cheating? How so exactly? After spending 6 months+ searching for these pets, I think they deserve to be able to keep one and sell one as a reward for all the time they put into it. Not to mention they are paying their own FDs for the pet. I see nothing wrong with it.
If you create, say, 4-6 I think that’s weird.
But I see nothing wrong with twins and triplets, as long as you don’t plan to be extremely greedy.
