nose piercing help?

Medium

I got my nose pierced (with a hoop, not a stud) today and the guy that did it didn’t really give me too much aftercare information so I’ve got a couple questions haha

how often should I clean it?
what should I do with the discharge when it starts dripping? like should I wipe it off, should I wash it, or should I just leave it?
when I turn the hoop, should I do it when my face is wet or is okay if my face is dry?

If I think of any other question I’ll let you guys know haha thanks!

The best advice I got for my nose piercing was:

- don’t ever turn it, it’s not an ear piercing.
- don’t touch it
- when you shower the soap from your hair and body will hit your face, and nose, and that’s all the cleaning you’ll need.
- steer clear of the ocean or pools/jacuzzis until it is healed.

As far as discharge…are you talking about snot? becasue your piercing should not be leaking anything. For your nose, just treat it as normal. Blow your nose, or wipe your nose but don’t drag or wipe the piercing.

Basically he said: if it gets infected its most likely because you touched it with your dirty fingers too many times.

I got my nose pierced a total of 5 times. The first few times I was told to do things like twist it, wash it, salt-water bath and so forth, and all times it got infected and formed a bump and I had to take it out. When I went to the guy i’m talking about it was my 5th time, I wasn’t sure I should pierce it again, but he said to do that stuff and it’d be fine. I’ve had that same piercing for going on 6 years now — and I’ve never had an issue with it.

DON"T towel your face directly out of the shower I ripped mine out countless times because it was a habit to dry my face right out of the shower forgot it was there :/

can agree that a few times I’ve gotten it snagged on the towel but that’s mostly because I don’t close my hoop all the way, it has a small opening (and i just use a bendy one not one with a ball) When I feel it snag on the towel, before letting go of the towel or moving it I shove it farther against my face so i don’t rip it haha

don’t twist ear piercings either!!

if you need to clean it, use a sterile saline wash that comes in a bottle and spray it a few times a day. just leaving it alone and rinsing it in the shower should be fine tho

if you get more in the future, try to get pierced with a stud it heals easier

clear discharge is normal. if you get crusties from the discharge just rinse it off in the shower. if the discharge is ever anything but clear get to your piercer asap!!

this is the main reason I had to get mine redone so many times. I started with a hoop, against the piercers recommendation, it got infected. Had to remove it. Then I tried another hoop on the opposite side, it got infected, then tried a stud twice. Ripped one out in my sleep, the other got infected. Pierced it the final time with a hoop and it healed perfectly. Went to a very expensive piercer, though, but he was really good.

thank you all for the advice, it’s super helpful!

the guy who did mine told me that since he practically had to create a tunnel in my nostril as the skin grows back it would have some discharge? Idk he was super vague lol thanks though

I always towel dry my face as soon as I get out of the shower so thanks for pointing that out! I think he closed my hoop all the way but I still don’t want it to snag or anything

he gave me these q-tips that you snap and they have some sort of liquid in it I think he gave it to me in lieu of the spray

also make sure your jewelry is made out of implant grade surgical steel, or better yet implant grade titanium! some ppl dont do well with surgical steel at all so titanium is best

also, when should I know that it’s completely healed? Like I know it takes about 6 to 8 weeks to heal but are there any telltale signs that let me know?

As for knowing when it’s healed — i guess just when it starts behaving like normal and not like an open wound. But definitely no swimming or anything until after the 8 week period. Unless you’ve had infections in between, it should be healed in the time frame the piercer gave you. It’s been so long since I got it done I really don’t know.

But thinking to my belly button piercing — i didn’t know when it was fully healed, I just waited about 8 months before even trying to change the jewelry. Once I was able to change the jewelry with no pain or snags, I just assumed it was fully healed.

wound wash is your best friend my friend. Clean both sides of the piercing (outside of nostril and inside) twice a day for the first two weeks and then I only clean mine like once a day if that after the first two weeks.

Like everyone said, try not to touch if much but I touch mine all the time and it’s not fully healed yet lol. Also try not to accidentally hit your face the first few days because I did and.. it really hurts

Thank you everyone!!!

When I wash my face in the morning and evening, should I just avoid getting the soap near the piercing?

Medium

Ok so my body hates piercings and will produce discharge. I clean it off with saline solution and cotton swabs w CLEAN HANDS to avoid infection. You can get saline at any drug store. I have the nostril spray kind bc sometimes if u use that u don’t have to use a cotton swab.

I also use a sea salt soak bc my nose has a bump on it :( my body didn’t like any piercing I ever got so my nostril piercing is 4 years old and I’m still having to baby it.

Also NO SOAP ON THE LIERCING it’s bad only clean w saline

The guy who did the piercing gave me a pack of “X-Pressions Medicated Swabs” that you have to snap and then you apply; I don’t want to overly cleanse the wound because I’ve heard that’s bad, so I should I just do that by itself or should I just do the saline?

Medium

you shouldnt put anything medicated on a healing piercing. the only thing you should use on it is sterile saline wash or water so you should stick with the saline

If a bump forms on the piercing you should try to pop it (similar to a pimple) and if it won’t go away you should remove your piercing because the bump can be permanent if you can’t get it down with the piercing in. Which is why when my first few got a bump + infection I just took them out.

i talked to a couple piercers- if you take it out theres a large chance of forming an abscess so my best option is to do sea salt soaks. it has gotten smaller since i started using it B))))

I had it pierced 2 years ago and all I did was take a cup of warm water with sea salt and use a q tip to get it clean both inside and out. I did that like 2 times a day and it healed amazingly. I ebded up taking it out for work and just got it repierced I think 7 weeks ago? I’m doing the same thing except I’m not cleaning it twice a day ooops. So far no issues tho.

Avoid putting face wash on it at first too. Both my piercers told me to avoid it until it’s healed. Like still wash your face obvs but yea. Also, avoid pools and lakes and stuff. As for towels, be extra careful. It only took me ripping it out once to learn that lesson lmbo.

If you end up getting a bump, tea tree oil helps a lot as well as salt soaks.

Also, definitely don’t recommend twisting it or moving it. It actually can cause bumps and infection and is just not a good idea. Touch it as little as possible. Im not sure how this works BC I’ve only had studs so I apologize if none of this helps you!!
